The Chester Hill Neighbourhood Centre has made a number of changes to its provision of day programs for adults with a disability. This is to enable our work to fit in with the newly developed initiatives undertaken by the Department of Ageing, Disability and Home Care (DADHC).

A range of flexible, responsive and age-appropriate service options are available to cater for individual needs and circumstances, together with services to families and carers.

Two programs are provided Life Choices and Active Ageing.

LIFE CHOICES
This program is available to adults aged from 25-54 and seeks to help participants to

  • be included in activities they enjoy in the community
  • learn to do new things that increase their independence
  • create opportunities and pathways to help them achieve their short and long-term goals, and
  • make friends with people who share similar interests.

ACTIVE AGEING PROGRAM
This program will respond to the needs and interests of older people aged 55-64 and seeks to help participants to

  • enjoy an active and healthy lifestyle
  • continue to be included in activities they enjoy in the community and remain independent
  • learn to do new things and develop their skills and interests
  • make friends with people who share similar interests, and
  • plan for their future and for older life.

In each program, who is to provide the service depends on three things:

  • where participants live,
  • the type of service they want to use, and
  • what they are interested in.
